Skin Cancer Surgery

Dermatoskop cihazı — cilt kanseri muayenesi ve ben kontrolü

Skin cancer is among the most common cancers worldwide and, when diagnosed early, can be treated successfully with skin cancer surgery. Plastic and reconstructive surgery combines oncologically sound tumour removal with aesthetic repair of the resulting defect in the same session.

Types of Skin Cancer

Basal Cell Carcinoma (BCC)

The most common type, usually appearing on sun-exposed areas such as the face and nose as a slow-growing, crusting or bleeding lesion.

Squamous Cell Carcinoma (SCC)

May progress faster than BCC; early surgical treatment is important.

Malignant Melanoma

May develop from mole-like lesions; any change in shape, colour or size should be evaluated without delay.

How Is the Surgery Performed?

The tumour is removed with an oncological safety margin (wide excision) and clear margins are confirmed by pathology. Lymph node assessment is added when indicated. The defect is repaired in the same session by primary closure, skin graft or local flap, respecting the aesthetic units of the face. See also our reconstructive surgery page.

Recovery

Depending on size and location, most procedures are performed under local anaesthesia as day surgery. Sutures are usually removed within 1-2 weeks and regular dermatological follow-up is recommended.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the warning signs?

A non-healing sore, a crusting or bleeding lesion, or a mole that grows or changes colour should be examined.

Will surgery leave a scar?

Every operation can leave a scar; plastic surgical techniques aim to keep it minimal and natural-looking.
